Position Overview

  • Job Title: Trade Marketing Manager

  • Reporting to: Chief Commercial Officer

  • Perimeter: Italy, UK, and Export Markets

Role Purpose

The Trade Marketing Manager owns the trade marketing agenda across all channels and markets, serving as the strategic connector between Sales and Brand/Marketing. This role is responsible for building promotional plans, measuring promotional ROI, and transforming sell-out and category data into compelling commercial arguments for retail partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Trade Marketing & Promotional Planning: Build, maintain, and execute annual trade marketing plans and promotional calendars by country, channel, and customer, aligned with brand strategies and sales targets.

  • Promotional ROI & Budgeting: Design promotions as ROI-driven investments. Pre/post-evaluate mechanics and track customer trade spending to avoid margin leakage.

  • Sell-Out & Category Data Analytics: Manage sell-out data engines (NielsenIQ, Circana, retailer portals) to identify market opportunities across assortment, distribution, and shelf placement.

  • Commercial Support & JBPs: Develop selling stories, category arguments, and line review materials to support Country Sales Managers and Key Account Managers in negotiations.

  • In-Store Execution: Define POS materials, secondary placements, and shopper activations, briefing external agencies and ensuring high-quality execution.

  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Act as the interface between Sales, Marketing, Product, and S&OP to ensure demand forecasts align with promotional commitments.

  • Experience & International Background: Minimum 5 years of experience in Trade Marketing within FMCG, gained in a structured commercial organization and a genuinely international context (with at least one market beyond the home country inside or adjacent to your perimeter, and routine exposure to English-speaking colleagues, partners, or customers).

  • Category Expertise: Strong preference for experience in fresh and short-shelf-life categories (e.g., fresh produce/IV gamma, dairy, deli, chilled ready meals). The key transferable asset is the ability to operate effectively with short lead times, promotional volatility, and non-recoverable stock.

  • Technical & Data Tools: Solid grounding in Modern Trade dynamics and panel data (NielsenIQ, Circana, retailer portals). Advanced knowledge of Excel and BI tools; familiarity with AI-assisted analytics is a plus.

  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical capabilities paired with executive synthesis skills ("data into action"), business acumen, and strong cross-functional communication skills.

  • Languages: Fluent English and Italian (C1 level required) due to daily international stakeholder management.

  • Education: Degree in Economics, Business Management, Marketing, or a comparable quantitative discipline.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: €40,000 – €45,000 Gross Annual Salary (commensurate with candidate seniority and experience).

  • Variable Compensation: Annual MBO / Performance Bonus scheme aligned with commercial targets and promotional ROI milestones.
